The department of general surgery has worked since the establishment of the faculty of medicine at Mutah University on training future doctors on principles and application of general surgery in clinical practice. Our department also working on serving and helping the local community at Karak Governorate and the Kingdom in general through health promotion lectures and activities. Also we have been serving the local community and the country through research projects that help decision makers in drawing help policies based on their results.

We work hard to keep our students and staff updated in our fields and on preparing future doctors on applying principles of surgery and evidence based medicine in their practice. We try to achieve this through training students and involving them in medical research projects.

The Pharmacology Department, in the Faculty of Medicine, was established in 2001 to provide medical students with basic and clinical concepts on drugs used in treatment of various diseases. The Department of Pharmacology offers several undergraduate courses in pharmacology. Currently, the teaching staff members in the department are five: there are two professors, one associate professor, and two assistant professors.

The Department of Pharmacology participates in the undergraduate study program of medicine by offering a general pharmacology course for the medical students. In addition, the staff members in the department participate in teaching pharmacology part of various systems modules during the second and third year of the program in the faculty of Medicine.

The faculty members in the Department conduct research work in various areas related to pharmacology. The research includes, pharmacovigilance, adverse drug reactions, treatment of genetic diseases, cancer pharmacology, neuropharmacology, cardiovascular pharmacology and clinical trials.

Brief: Vision: The vision of the Department of Pharmacology is to provide excellent teaching and research activities for medical students in the field of Pharmacology. Objectives: The aim of studying pharmacology is to ensure the safe & effective use of drugs. Students will understand and be familiar with the proper & safe use of drugs. During the course, students will study the general principles of pharmacology regarding pharmacokinetic & pharmacodynamic of drugs. Moreover, drugs acting on various systems in the body, chemical mediators in the body & their role in health and disease and antimicrobial therapies will dealt with in the general pharmacology course.

Educational:

1.To present a concise but comprehensive knowledge on how the various organs, tissues and cells come together to form the functional and morphological human body. A general introduction on human development is mandatory followed by integration of Anatomical knowledge with other Basic Medical Sciences in a multidisciplinary system-based modular system. These, in addition to other disciplines, would form the foundations for human biological studies in health and disease i.e. "biological basis of medicine ".

2. To provide anatomical lab skills on cadavers, models, cross sections, radiological & MRI images as well as microscopic histological specimens.

3. To enhance communication skills through student-presented seminars.

Research: to carry out community-oriented research, especially regarding the effects of local environmental pollutants on the body, tissue, cell and molecule level, utilizing the available lab resources of histopathology, immunofluorescence, cell culture, and image analysis.

Objectives and Expected Learning Outcomes

Knowledge:

1 - To acquire the knowledge about structures of the human body.

To know the names and main features of bones, joints, muscles and their relations in the human body.

2- To be able to identify the main anatomical features of the human viscera and central nervous system.

3- Give the student an accurate description of principles of embryology and fetal development.

4- Give the student an accurate, up to – date description of the microscopic structure in relation to functions of cells ,tissues and organs of human body.

2. Skills :

Acquire the skills of physical examination of different parts of human body and to read some x rays and CT pictures

Be able to use properly the light microscope to examine tissues

Be able to read and write reports on both light and electron microscopic photomicrographs.

To use the obtained basic data in order to understand the principals of various diseases.

Use the advanced equipment to perform researches by the staff members

The faculty of Medicine in Mutah shines as a beacon of science and knowledge in the south of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and soars high as an essential and primary component of Mutah University, “the University of the Sword and the Pen,” with its military and civilian wings.

Amidst life's diverse journeys and diverse paths, there is nothing that captivates us more than standing in one of the oases of science and knowledge to talk about one of its pure springs that emerged about two decades ago, when the idea of establishing the faculty of medicine developed into reality in Mutah; the land of history in Karak Governorate, which was established in 2001 to become an edifice of science.

Mutah Faculty of Medicine is renowned for its unwavering dedication to student-centered medical education. Dedication and commitment are the guiding principles of the faculty and staff, as they firmly believe that the student is the core of the educational process. This is complemented by free medical days, awareness campaigns, and lectures organized by the college to serve the community.

Despite the geographical and material challenges, the expansion and progress in education have exceeded all expectations. The Faculty of Medicine at Mutah University has made remarkable achievements in higher education, as recent years have witnessed remarkable growth and development, as evidenced by the provision of postgraduate programs in public health administration and a higher specialization certificate program in medicine.

Finally, our faculty has contributed to graduating qualified doctors who have made a significant mark in medicine and scientific research. In addition, this faculty has contributed to graduating groups of leaders in various aspects of national, political, economic, social, literary, and religious life.
